Macquarie University Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join the Orthopaedic Institute on a permanent, full-time basis, working across Pre-Op, Anaesthetics and Recovery (PACU).

Based within Ward 5, our fast-paced surgical ward specialising in orthopaedic surgery including upper and lower limb procedures, joint replacements, fractures and other musculoskeletal conditions. • Providing skilled clinical support within the Anaesthetics environment, including airway management assistance, intravenous access, medication administration and patient monitoring during induction, maintenance and emergence.
  • Delivering expert post-anaesthetic care in PACU, encompassing continuous monitoring, airway management, pain and post-operative nausea and vomiting (PONV) management, and assessment of discharge readiness against established criteria.
  • Recognising and responding promptly to clinical deterioration and emergencies in accordance with hospital policy and evidence-based practice.
  • Maintaining accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical documentation across all phases of perioperative care in accordance with Macquarie University Health Policy.
  • Collaborating closely with Anaesthetists, Surgeons, Nurse Unit Managers and the broader multidisciplinary team to deliver coordinated, patient-centred care for patients with complex orthopaedic needs.
  • Participating actively in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits and the promotion of a strong safety culture.
  • Supporting the orientation, mentoring and education of new team members and nursing students within the perioperative setting.
